KUMMOOYEH

Kummooyeh translates into Sword Martial Art.  The word Kum or Gum means sword or blade.  The art focuses on quick and practical cutting techniques, archery, meditation as well as sword and shield, moon blade and twin sword work.

My Story

First off, I love this style!  I love the forms, short and sweet but very nuanced.  Archery is new and exciting and very challenging, even at short distances.

Switching systems and federations is tough to do midstream but that was my experience.  Right before my second degree testing in Haidong Gumdo, our school switched federations to the new Kummooyeh Federation.  While there are some similarities, the techniques are almost opposite in my experience.  After the first seminar under the grandmaster and founder Jeoung Bouk Soo and staff, I was hooked.  Training under the World Kummooyeh Federation, I received my second degree black belt in Kummooyeh.

Fun fact...there are 2 main World Kummooyeh Federations with the same name.  The two "founders" were once part of the same organization.  One was the president and the other an officer of the organization.  They split up and claimed originality....the president's style contains original sword forms and the officer's style contains forms from Haidong Gumdo.  I'm not claiming nor can I claim who is the original founder is. I was just happy to train.

Doing my own research, it seems that Kummooyeh has already tried to establish itself in the US back in 2013-2014.  It is doing so again in 2023.  Now in 2025, I unfortunately find myself switching federations again.  With our school being a co-starter of the martial art, it wasn't even six months later that we were being shut out and ignored.  We have hung on but now we are moving on.
